Our Story

    Thirteen years of running.
One idea that wouldn’t let go.

    From the founder

I’m Jorge. Anew is my own story, turned into a coach.

Four ultras, three marathons, a decade of halves. None of those numbers matter much. What matters is what running gave me on the days the rest of life didn’t: a place to think, a place to fail, a place to come back. This is how that turned into Anew.

    The story of Anew

From a pair of shoes to a coach in your pocket.

    1. 2013

      The first pair of shoes

I played fútbol, was short on fitness and wanted to drop some weight. One day I bought a pair of running shoes, half at random, and that was the start of everything. Laps around the Viveros, 5k to 10k, and more treadmill than I’d like to admit.

    2. 2015 — 2017

      I found running

My first race was a 5K and it went great, mostly because I’d been training for months without noticing. A year later I ran my first half: at kilometer 18 I decided to push, crossed the line about to throw up, and swore never again. Then came eight or nine more halves, trained with PDFs from the internet and the Nike app. In Guadalajara I expected 1:45 and ran 1:35:47, and I believed my own hype. Two races later, on less training, I got put in my place. That lesson became the heart of Anew: I wasn’t fast. I just trained a lot.

    3. Nov 2019

      The ACL

I tore the cruciate ligament in my knee. Surgery, three months with no cardio at all, and a long rehab that thankfully went well. It was the first time running was taken out of my hands, and the first time I learned what coming back really costs.

    4. 2020 — 2021

      Running becomes the center

The pandemic took fútbol away and running took its place. I trained more than ever while every race got cancelled; the only thing still alive was trail. Trail led me to the ultras and I fell in love with both. In 2021 I opened an account to post photos of my runs: @anew.run. The brand was born before the company.

    5. 2022

      I didn’t know what I didn’t know

With an operated knee I went marathon, then ultra, then a longer ultra, never once slowing down. It wasn’t arrogance, it was ignorance: nobody was there to tell me that bill would come due. By June the knee started to complain and the complaint kept growing. I still closed the year with one of my best marathons.

    6. Late 2023

      The seed

After running Mar a Mar, my knee needed a second surgery. I went looking for one answer and nobody had it. The coach said stop running. The physio said lower the volume but keep running. The surgeon said I’ll operate and you’re done. My coach would forget the injury by the next block, and no app could do something as basic as swapping a run for the elliptical. With all the information and tracking that exists, how can this guidance not exist? I was working in fintech by then and the pieces came together: technology and sport. Anew was born from that question.

    7. 2024 — 2026

      The science, for real

I studied what I’d been living: a master’s in Sports Technology at KTH and a sports physiology certification from GIH. I chose that master’s already carrying the idea of Anew.

The start of a new life

“I’m going to be a coach. Anew Run. On to what’s next.” The account became a company and the idea became a promise to keep. A new life, literally.

    9. 2026

      Anew, live

Anew became a native iOS app, with the training engine first and everything else after. Today it’s on the App Store, coaching runners the way I spent a decade wishing someone had coached me.

      What comes next

A coach in every runner’s pocket that remembers more than any human could, costs a fraction, and never makes you feel like a row in a database. We’re just getting started.

    Five principles

The things we will not compromise on.

    Science

Every plan is rooted in real sports science. We don’t invent training; we make the proven kind reachable.

    Process

Running is not a 12-week template. It’s a continuous process of stress, adaptation and reflection, and we design for that arc.

    Identity

A coach worth keeping remembers who you are: your history, your injuries, your story. Anew is built around memory.

    Consistency

The runners who go furthest are the ones who keep showing up. Anew bends with your life so you can stay consistent.

    Movement

Running is a way of moving through life, not a productivity metric. The point is to keep moving, at every age.
